Engineering Services — NICET IV

In-House Engineering & Design

A NICET Level IV-led engineering team producing permit-ready, code-compliant fire alarm drawings faster than any outsourced engineering firm.

NICET Level IV — The Highest Certification
Why It Matters

Your Plans Move Faster. Your Inspections Pass.

NICET Level IV is the highest field certification available in the fire alarm industry — the top of NICET's four certification levels in fire alarm systems. It requires years of documented experience, demonstrated mastery of NFPA 72 and related codes, and peer-validated competency, so ask any contractor what level the person designing your system holds. Having NICET IV in-house means PCS can do things competitors simply cannot.

When your fire alarm drawings are engineered by a NICET IV on staff — rather than an outside firm that may not know your local AHJ — the result is drawings that are correct the first time, submitted with confidence, and approved faster. This directly translates to fewer correction notices, reduced design fees, and projects that stay on schedule.

Permit-Ready Construction Documents

Complete, code-compliant submittal packages — floor plans, riser diagrams, device schedules, and specifications — NICET IV-designed and ready for AHJ submission, so reviews come back with fewer comments.

Design-Build

One contract from engineering through final inspection. PCS manages the entire scope, eliminating the coordination friction between designer and installer.

CSI Specification Writing

Fire alarm and life safety specs in CSI MasterFormat for inclusion in project documents. Saves architects and engineers significant time on specifications.

Value Engineering

We review existing designs to identify cost-reduction opportunities — often reducing device counts and overall system cost without compromising code compliance.

Performance-Based Design

For complex or non-standard occupancies where prescriptive code compliance is difficult or costly, PCS engineers alternative compliance paths.

As-Built Documentation

Post-installation record drawings that document the system as actually installed — critical for future modifications, inspections, and facility records.

FAQ

Engineering Services FAQ

Yes. PCS engineers fire alarm systems based on the code requirements and the project's specific needs — we are not limited to any single manufacturer's equipment. PCS works with Potter, Silent Knight, Fire-Lite Alarms, Mircom, Gentex and Autocall (authorized Autocall partner); for engineering-only projects we can design around the manufacturer the owner or GC has selected.

PCS's engineering team, led by a NICET Level IV (Fire Alarm Systems) certified designer, prepares a complete, code-compliant submittal package — permit-ready drawings, riser diagrams, device schedules, and specifications. The Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) reviews and approves the plans; PCS answers any review comments directly and keeps the submittal moving through to permit. Because the design is built to NFPA 72 and Utah's adopted codes from the start, our submittals draw fewer AHJ comments and resubmittals.

Timing depends on project size, how complete the architectural drawings are, coordination with other trades, and AHJ workload. Small tenant improvements can move quickly; complex multi-trade projects such as high-rise or healthcare buildings take more back-and-forth. PCS sets a schedule at kickoff and keeps the AHJ submittal moving — and PCS's AHJ relationships often accelerate the review process compared to working with an engineer the AHJ doesn't know.

Yes. PCS provides engineering-only services — producing permit-ready, NICET IV-designed drawings and specifications for projects where another contractor will perform the installation. Contact PCS to discuss engineering-only engagements.
