Life Safety Services — NFPA 10

Fire Extinguisher Services

NFPA 10-compliant fire extinguisher inspection, recharging, and rebuilds — on site through our mobile service or at our shop, for facilities across Utah.

Overview

We Come to You

Powered Control Systems provides comprehensive fire extinguisher inspection, maintenance, recharging, and rebuild services for commercial facilities across Utah — with a key differentiator: our mobile service team comes to you. Annual maintenance can be performed on site at your facility, or at our shop — and when units go to the shop, loaner extinguishers are available until yours come back tagged and ready to hang.

For hotels with 200 extinguishers, hospitals with 400, or warehouses spread across 150,000 square feet, hauling your own extinguishers to a service shop isn't realistic. PCS's mobile service eliminates that burden entirely — one call schedules your entire facility.

PCS holds Utah State Fire Marshal certificate #E104811, and all of our fire extinguisher services are performed to NFPA 10 standards, with certified technicians documenting every inspection and providing the service tags required for compliance. For property managers with multiple locations, we offer portfolio service agreements that put all your annual inspections on autopilot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

NFPA 10 requires a monthly visual inspection (can be performed by building personnel), annual maintenance by a qualified technician, 6-year internal maintenance for stored-pressure units on the 12-year hydrostatic schedule, and hydrostatic testing every 5 or 12 years depending on extinguisher type. PCS handles the professional annual, 6-year, and hydrostatic services.

Every six years, stored-pressure extinguishers that require a 12-year hydrostatic test (such as dry chemical and clean agent) must be emptied, disassembled, internally inspected, and recharged, with internal parts cleaned and replaced as needed. This is in addition to annual maintenance and is documented on a collar label attached to the extinguisher.

Hydrostatic testing — every 5 years for CO₂, water, and wet-chemical units and every 12 years for most dry-chemical and clean-agent units — verifies the structural integrity of the extinguisher cylinder by pressurizing it with water beyond its working pressure. It ensures the cylinder hasn't developed cracks, corrosion, or other damage that could cause it to fail under pressure. Cylinders that fail are removed from service.

Yes. PCS services, recharges, and certifies fire extinguishers regardless of the brand or who supplied them, as long as the unit is in serviceable condition.

You call us or we reach out based on your scheduled service date. Our technician comes to your facility on an agreed date and tags all units for tracking. Annual maintenance can be performed right on site through our mobile service, or units can go to our shop for service. When units go to the shop, loaner extinguishers are available so your facility stays protected, and we return yours tagged, documented, and ready to hang.
